1 Inadequate Background Research on the Company:
This is one very important reason why people fail job interviews because most people tend to overlook this or maybe, don’t really take the stress of doing a proper research about the company, their company goals/mission and their visions.
Any employer would want to know to what extent can you invest your time into working your ass out and achieving set goals; this is the first thing that tells them that you are probably worth the time/job.
In essence make sure you also get to know how they operate, who they work with, their motto or what they stand for; this will also to a large extent boost your confidence when answering certain questions.
2 You Don’t Know What You Want:
This one reason will just blow the employer off and immediately, he will loose interest in the conversation. These interviewers wants to know where your career is headed in the nearest future and if you perceive that you don’t even have a clue about your own career, then that’s a minus on your part because they’ll get scared that you’ll just change your mind any day and leave them.
So my advice here is that you get prepared with questions like ‘Tell Me About Yourself’?
3 You Weren’t Authentic or Consistent in Your Answers:
Be genuine with your answers but please and please don’t argue with your employers or try to impose an impression.
What am trying to say is don’t lie about any information, instead admit you don;t know it and show willingness to want to know it. Because and you are inconsistent with your answers your employer will perceive you to be a cunning or untrustworthy person and trust me; you’ve lost your vote if they feel you are not trust worthy.
So my advice her is that you give genuine and truthful answers when asked a question in a job interview and if you don’t have a clue to the answer, then wait and show willingness to learn it because trust me you can’t know it all.
This way you’ll win their trust and confidence.
4 Poor Appearance/Body Expression:
Most persons believe that interviews are just about having to know the right questions and the right answers to these questions but trust me me it’s not true.
From the moment you stepped into the premises/building of where you supposed to have the interview down to the waiting room and down to the office where the interview will be conducted you are being interview. Basically you interview questions is just say 40%-55% of your entire score.
Employers will observe you from the moment they set their eyes on you and you don’t wanna give them a dull or shabby expression.

- Shut the door behind you and not in front of you.
- Don’t sit until asked to.
- Try as much as possible not to keep tapping your hands or feet its really a bad expression.
- Sit Straight
- Keep your eyes on your interviewers so you don’t appear to be distracted as such.
- Have/practice a good sitting or walking posture.
These may not look too important but trust me they really matter. If you are saying the right things in an interview but your appearance is giving the opposite impression, then it be the reason why you are not passing interviews.
5 You Probably Forgot to Send Follow Back Appreciation Emails:
This will tell your employers of the kind of person you are and how you value relationships. Interpersonal worker relationship is also a watch criteria for many companies.
I believe a nice but short follow back appreciation message will be the best for the persons you met. Maybe during lunch time you can leave a message fro them.
6 Lack of Excitement or Enthusiasm:
Employers want someone who will be happy doing the job. They want someone who is optimistic, positive and energetic doing their job.
When you are giving an assignment or a new job description and you love, don’t smile but also say you ‘love it’.
They want to know you being part of their team will not slow the work down.
7 You didn’t Build a Little Relationship With the Hiring Manager
It’s good to be serious minded and confident but don’t over do it, if not you’ll look too serious and overly confident and arrogant.
These interviewers are human being like you and during the course of your interview session, you could scale the room to see of anything; maybe picture of a child, sports, dog etc which may be of interest to the interview and probably chip it into the discussion as the discussion progresses.
When am not saying you should travel out of the job interview but whan am saying is somewhat like a follow back question. For Instance you might be asked ‘ What kind of boks interest you?’
Then you could answer the question followed by a ‘what about you?’ question; just as simple as it seems, it’s a good strategy and it reduces tension and also creates a connection between you and the hiring manager.
